I've taken apart my gun many times. Its a JG M4 full metal enhanced gearbox with Mosfet (Part #FB6604). Very good gun out of the box, but i have high standards. It shoots 420-430 FPS stock.
I shimmed the hopup arm, upgraded the bucking, nub, 6.01mm TBB, ball bearing spring guide, M130 spring, aimtop light weight full metal piston, element silent ball bearing piston head and cylinder head, metal nozzle with o-ring, re-shimmed the gears, and a reinforced tappet plate.
I have a Guarder bore-up kit but i dont know if i'm supposed to use a bore-up piston or just use the regular sized one....oh well.
Edit: So yah, i have experience with ver. 2 and 3 gearboxes.

i believe there are no bore up pistons, but there are bore up piston heads that go onto the piston, thats all you would need to use a bore up kit, most kits come with the head anyways. dont use a standard head with a bore up cause it will no tfully seal when the piston compresses

Nice to have randolph on board! He's true Guam old skool airsoft! I have not seen that AEG logo in a long time, and it's an honor to have that in these pages.

i agree with Randolph about that, (bore-up topic). this i share with you guys, i learned from 'asking questions', and it is always to Randolph that i do my querry on things that I don't know. i learned that way. it is always good to learn, if in doubt ask...
